The weekend tension could be felt from England to Ibadan as the football atmosphere was thickened with pregnant optimism from Ole and Klopp's no-nonsense craze to set the record straight. Klopp believed Ole should be taught a lesson for that optimism and Ole hung the hope of continuing his job on the outcome of the match.
Just as promised, a dying tiger fights dirty. Soksjaer startled the football world in the first half of the game. He played the Liverpool ways: long balls with quick counter. He got the only goal in the first through the nimble footed James' assist. Rashford trashed it into the net. Old Trafford roared and beliefs soared. Liverpool was expecting the usual: where the opponent would be trying to out-create them in the midfield and they (Liverpool) would use your errors to punish you.
Many first half events like a claim of Origi being fouled before the buildup to the goal was checked on VAR. But Liverpool was VAR unfortunate in the game as Mane early goal was also ruled out as hand ball.
VanDijk met the real Rashford. Rashford was at a peak despite having fewer touches. He got a roaring goal and several stoic torments on VanDijk.
Second half was for Liverpool. Dijk and Fabinho transferred aggression to James. It was effective as the small lad became un-felt later in the game.
Manchester united defence, as usual, later slept off and Lallana equalised for Liverpool. Klopp jubilated "a point is better than no points". Ole still firmly on the wheel because he made the champion dredge for a point in Old Trafford. Just remember that Man Utd moved up from 13th to 13th position.
Mane still a Supermane. Liverpool notably a long-baller. Ole adapted quite well. Rashford not trash anymore, Ole just needs to awaken the passion.
The shadow of the clash almost made us forget:
Chelsea won Newcastle 1-0 through Alonso' goal. Is Marcos Alonso coming back? Manchester beat crystal palace 2-0.
